Alastair has over 25 years of international board and executive level leadership experience, growing teams across education, legal and professional services sectors. He is Chair and Pro-Chancellor of the University of Leeds and Chair of Capital City College Group, one of the largest further education college groups in the UK. He served as a Commissioner to the UK Government’s Social Mobility Commission between 2018-21.
Alastair qualified and practised as a corporate lawyer and he was recently a partner and executive board member with leading intellectual property specialists HGF Group; he previously had a long career with international law firm DLA Piper, where he was a Partner, Managing Director (for Asia Pacific and Middle East), Global Board and Executive member. At DLA Piper Alastair was part of the executive team that helped to create the largest law firm in the world at the time.
Alastair has also had board roles with boutique leadership development and executive search businesses, and he has set up and was first CEO of an international youth charity; he is also Chair of professional rugby union club, Leeds Tykes. Alastair has a Law degree from the University of Leeds, an MSc in Development Management from The London School of Economics and he is a qualified solicitor.
